Volkswagen’s current seventh-generation will come in for a major update at the end of next year, introducing key new convenience technologies.
Buyers got a first look at the new systems with the special Golf R Touch concept revealed earlier this year, which showcased an overhauled interior with three giant displays in the dash.
Among them was a broad screen in place of the traditional instrument cluster, along with two oversized displays in the centre stack that allow a number of functions to be controlled by phone-like hand gestures.
In its concept form, the Golf R Touch’s systems replace nearly all of the cabin’s physical switches with on-screen touch and gesture controls, including a special 3D camera system in the roof lining that responds to touch and swipe gestures for controlling the sunroof.
