Isuzu has updated its seven-seat MU-X SUV range in line with the mechanical updates applied to the related D-Max ute in what the company calls a model year 2016.5 update, leaving a physical facelift for later this year.
Under the bonnet, the MU-X range gains a new 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, which is an engineering project designed to meet the needs of Australian buyers and the more stringent Euro 5 emissions compliance.
Power stays the same at 130kW at 3600rpm with a beefier 430Nm of torque from 2000 to 2200rpm in place of the previous 380Nm output. Further enhancing its driveability, 380Nm is now on offer from 1700 to 3500rpm.
Engine changes extend to new pistons, fuel injectors, EGR bypass valve, ceramic glow plugs, a larger EGR cooler, and a variable geometry turbocharger as well as the addition of a diesel particulate filter (which Isuzu calls a diesel particulate diffuser).
Two new transmission options are available across the range with an Isuzu-designed six-speed manual or six-speed Aisin-supplied six speed automatic, along with an upgraded differential to handle the increased torque output.
The MU-X range remains as before with LS-M, LS-U, and LS-T variants available in 4x2 and 4x4 with LS-M and LS-U 4x4 offered with a six-speed manual while all other configurations are automatic only.
Specification changes are limited to a new 7.0-inch touchscreen audio system for the LS-M and an 8.0-inch system for LS-U and LS-T. The LS-M also gains a reverse camera and eight-speakers.
Other changes hidden from sight include standard Hill Descent Control for 4x2 models along with changes to underbody insulation for reduced noise and vibration.
Prices rise by $1300 across the MU-X range compared with the previous Model Year 2015.5 range.
