Infiniti has boosted the appeal of its Q60 coupe in Australia with the arrival two new variants - including the new Red Sport model with V6 power.

An all-new 3.0 litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 produces 298kW and 475Nm, which is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Fuel consumption is rated at 8.9 l/100km.

The Red Sport backs the engine output with Infiniti’s electronically-controlled Digital Dynamic Suspension (DDS) and steer-by-wire Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS), while safety features include forward collision warning, moving object detection, an ‘Around View’ monitor and autonomous emergency braking.

The driver can choose between six drive modes, including one which is exclusive to the Red Sport (called Sport+). The other drive modes are Standard, Snow, Sport, Eco and Personal.

Inside, the Q60 is equipped with a twin touchscreen infotainment system, 13-speaker Bose audio system and a new high-back seat design.

Infiniti refers to the Q60 Red Sport’s styling as “powerful elegance”, adding that the new model is lower and wider than any Infiniti coupe to date.

A second new Q60 variant called the Q60 Sport Premium has also arrived in Australia ahead of the Red Sport, taking the Q60’s model tally to three with the existing Q60 GT now acting as the entry-level model.

The Sport Premium misses out on the Red Sport’s V6 engine, instead utilising the GT’s 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit which makes 155kW of power and 350Nm of torque, while using 7.7 l/100km.

“Infiniti has always been at the forefront of daring design and pioneering technology – and the Q60 again offers both,” Infiniti President, Roland Krueger said.

“We believe the Q60‘s qualities and core strengths – the way it looks and drives – will appeal to buyers in the premium sports coupe segment.”

Pricing starts at $88,900 for the Red Sport, $70,900 for the Sport Premium and $62,900 for the GT (all prices exclude on-road costs).

The 2017 Infiniti Q60 range is on sale now, backed by a four-year, 100,000km warranty, and Infiniti says the Q60 line-up for Australia is now complete.
