Volkswagen Australia has confirmed it will bring the most powerful production Golf GTI ever, the Golf GTI 40 Years Edition (also known in Europe as the Golf GTI Clubsport, pictured) to local showrooms in June this year with an attractive $48,990 retail price.

Boasting more power than a Golf R - 213kW with overboost (active at full throttle for ten seconds at a time), 195kW without - and just as much torque (380Nm), the front-drive Golf GTI 40 Years Edition will be one of Volkswagen's fastest road cars ever sold here.
