MINI has confirmed that its first-ever take on the traditional five-door hatch look, the 2015 Cooper 5-Door, will hit Australia from $27,750 on November 1.
That entry price marks a $3250 premium over the most affordable 3-Door model - the recently launched MINI Cooper One - but nearly $4000 more affordable than the previous-generation Cooper.
Three models in the Cooper 5-Door range will be offered from launch: the entry Cooper, the $32,900 Cooper D diesel, and the top-shelf $38,050 Cooper S.
The new five-door hatch shares much of its styling and features with the 3-Door range that launched in April. But, like the Clubman before it, the 5-Door offers MINI fans a more practical shape.
There’s a longer wheelbase with the new 5-Door, growing 72mm beyond the 3-Door’s 2495mm, while overall length is 161mm longer at 3982mm (4005mm for the S model).
With space a greater priority in this model, the 5-Door also gets an extra 15mm of headroom, along with a 61mm increase in elbow height and 72mm more legroom in the rear.
Storage space has likewise increased, growing by 67 litres to 278 litres with the 60:40 rear seats upright and 941 litres when laid flat.
