BMW Australia has added a host of new standard features to its 3 Series range this week as it moves to combat the rampant Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Comfortably wrapping up 2014 as Australia’s most popular midsized prestige car, the C-Class also sold twice as many units as the 3 Series in December.

But, while the 3 Series range’s upgrades are significant, they won’t come for free, with pricing increased across much of the line-up by between $400 to $3100.

Among the enhancements are a now standard head-up display for the entry 316i sedan, which also now gets reversing and 360-degree camera views.

Middle- and top-shelf models gain the previously optional Driver Assistance Package as standard, which adds lane departure and pedestrian warnings and autonomous braking.
