2014 MG3 Revealed In Shanghai

Just one week after commencing the local re-launch of the brand, MG Motor has whipped the covers off its second model since the company was acquired by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation.

Dubbed the MG3, it's a small hatchback that bears a very strong resemblance to the MG Zero concept from three years ago. 

The lines are smoother, the bumpers less fussy and the light clusters greatly simplified, but the overall shape and the positions of door and hatch cutlines are all faithful to the concept. 

What we can't see, though, is the interior. However, it's probably safe to say that it won't be anything like the Tron-inspired cabin of the Zero concept.

But although we can't see behind the MG3's darkened glass, MG promises that the interior of its new hatch will be spacious enough to fit four adults over six feet tall. Overall length of the car is just over four metres, while a tall roof should ensure generous headroom.

Currently, only one engine has been confirmed for the MG3 - a four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine of unknown displacement, producing 77kW and driving the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

The MG3 is slated to go on sale in Europe towards the end of this year. A local debut has yet to be confirmed.
