Incredibly, Jeep's Grand Cherokee SRT8 sledgehammer has become even more brutish to look at - but, according to Jeep, a whole lot more refined and capable.
Hitting this week's Detroit Auto Show a mere four months after its Australian debut, the updated SRT8 is described as "the Darth Vader" of the 2014 Grand Cherokee range.
Like the regular Grand Cherokee, the SRT8 gains new Euro-flavoured styling for the new model year, along with the ZF eight-speed auto that many 'in the know' buyers have opted to wait for.
The SRT8's 344kW and 624Nm 6.4 litre V8 engine remains unchanged, but the new transmission blesses the big meataxe with launch control for quicker starts - around 0.1 seconds quicker, that is - and an Eco mode for optimising fuel use.
Landing the new transmission has also given the SRT8 a new 3265kg tow rating, marking a significant improvement over the 2268kg rating listed with the current five-speed auto.
