Infiniti’s development of the next-generation G sedan has entered the evaluation phase, as these recent spy photos suggest.
Tipped for an unveiling at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March, this prototype appears to draw heavily from the styling of the LE concept shown at this year’s New York Auto Show.
Despite the camouflage, the prototype looks to be sporting an evolution of the LE’s profile character line, while front and rear styling appears a near match for the concept.
However, the LE’s distinctive C-pillar profile has made way for a more conventional treatment.
Also apparent in these images is the 50mm wheelbase stretch reported previously, which would enable the new G to better compete with the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 for rear seat accommodation.
Though still unconfirmed, the new model is expected to share much of its architecture and drivetrain options with the next-generation Mercedes Benz C-Class as part of the partnership between Renault/Nissan and Mercedes Benz parent Daimler.
The current Nissan-developed 3.7 litre V6 is expected to continue as the G’s flagship offering, with a twin-turbo version to rival the BMW M3/M4 also said to be in the works.
As with the current international G range, the coupe and convertible bodystyles are expected to return, though following the sedan’s Geneva debut.
Australia
The current G convertible and coupe are set to be unveiled at next week’s Australian International Motor Show (AIMS), before going on sale in November.
A local sedan version will have to wait until the new-generation sedan launches some time in 2014.
