The 2014 BMW 4 Series Convertible will arrive in Australian showrooms in March, following the Coupe’s arrival late last year.

Three models will be available from launch, with the entry-level 420d priced from $88,800 plus on-roads being the only diesel-powered option.

The petrol-powered 428i and 435i models make up the rest of the initial 4 Series Convertible range, priced at $97,500 and $126,600 respectively, plus on-road costs.

The 420d is powered by a TwinPower four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 135kW and 380Nm, with fuel consumption listed at 4.8 l/100km. The 0-100km/h dash is dealt with in 8.2 seconds.

The mid-range 428i features a TwinPower turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 180kW and 350Nm while the top-shelf 435i gets a TwinPower turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, good for 225kW and 400Nm.

Fuel economy for the 428i and 435i is listed at 6.7 l/100km and 7.7 l/100km respectively, with zero to 100km/h times of 6.4 seconds for the 428i and 5.5 seconds for the 435i.

All three 4 Series Convertible models will feature the same eight-speed automatic transmission in Australia.

As previously revealed, the 4 Series Convertible has a three-piece metal folding roof, which can be raised or lowered in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 18km/h. BMW says the new design features a more noise-absorbent headliner with interior lighting to better reflect the coupe experience with the roof up.

An optional “Air Collar” (standard on 435i) warms the neck with a variable stream of air and includes three-position adjustment via a control integrated into the switch for the roof.

The 4 Series Convertible is longer and wider than the previous 3 Series Convertible it replaces, with an increased wheelbase and track.

“With its striking blend of performance, elegance and innovation the new BMW 4 Series Convertible instantly appeals,” BMW Australia boss Phil Horton said.

“It’s a definite winner and is sure to extend on the worldwide success of its predecessor.”
