Toyota has confirmed the new fourth-generation RAV4 midsized SUV will make its first global appearance at this month's Los Angeles Auto Show.

Teased in a video released today, this first official look at the new RAV4 follows a series of spy photos obtained during testing in the Middle East earlier this year.

Both reveal that the look of the new SUV will follow in the footsteps of the recently launched light Yaris, small Corolla and midsized Camry sedan

Toyota is moving to reposition the RAV4 as a sharp and stylish new offering that will take the fight to Mazda's top-selling CX-5 SUV.

The new RAV4 will borrow heavily from the look of Toyota's newer models, featuring a hooked headlight design, deep-V grille and hard-edged bumpers.

At the rear, the new model's lights will extended into the tailgate, while a low-cut bumper will create the same wide and deep loading access provided by the third-gen SUV.

Engine options are expected to include a pair of four-cylinder engines, one petrol and one diesel, signalling the end of the current V6 model.

The 2012 LA Auto Show runs from November 30 to December 9. Click here for more information on which new models and concepts will appear at the show.
