Toyota's hard-working 70 Series LandCruiser range has come in for a 2013 model-year update, with the addition of ABS the standout new feature.

ABS joins the range just two months on from the news that mining giant BHP would no longer be taking vehicles without a 5-Star safety rating. The technology was not previously available with any 70 Series model.

These updates also follow the announcement last week of a new double-cab version, in addition to existing single-cab, wagon, and troop-carrier bodystyles.

The improved braking system comes standard on all WorkMate, GX, and GXL models, and is joined by a raft of other improvements across the range.

All models gain a revised dashboard design, along with a new front storage compartment/cupholder and extra 12V power socket.

A new radio/CD audio system has been fitted across the range, with Bluetooth telephony and audio streaming, along with USB and 3.5mm jacks.

All models are also now fitted standard with an A-pillar mounted intake snorkel.

GX and GXL models get new dashboard clock with temp display, stopwatch and alarm.

GXL models are now equipped with standard differential locks, along with a new key fob design, and factory-installed keyless entry. Previous models had keyless entry installed upon arrival in Australia.

Wagon and double-cab models benefit from new front and rear seat designs, with extended seat-bases for improved passenger comfort.

An enlarged 130 litre fuel tank is aimed at improving the range of wagon models, up from the previous 90 litre unit.

Detail changes include the fitment of a high-mount centre stop-lamp on the troop carrier WorkMate model for the first time.

Mechanically, all models continue with the 151kW/430Nm 4.5 litre turbodiesel V8 and five-speed manual transmission as the sole driveline option.
