Skoda's Fabia RS hatch and wagon will make their Australian debuts this month and buyers keen for drive-away pricing details need only hit the carmaker's local website.

Revealed in 2010 and confirmed by TMR late last year for a 2012 launch, the Fabia RS will arrive in Australia as the Volkswagen group's most affordable five-door hot-box.

The RS will kick off at $27,990 for the five-door hatch, entering at the same price as Volkswagen's three-door Polo GTI, and $1000 below the five-door.

Go for the wagon version - an option not available in the Polo line - and the price climbs to $29,990.

Driven by the same 132kW 1.4 litre TSI engine as the Polo GTI, both the hatch and wagon RS cars will push to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds. By comparison, the Polo GTI covers the distance in a very close 6.9 seconds.

The 1.4 litre twin-charged engine is paired with the Volkswagen Group's seven-speed DSG transmission, with steering-mounted paddles available on the optional multi-functional wheel.

Fuel consumption figures for the Fabia RS models are listed at 6.2 l/100km for both the hatch and the wagon.

Visually, the Fabia RS is set apart from the regular model by its unique front and rear bumpers, 17-inch alloy Gigaro wheels, red-painted brake calipers, tinted windows and twin exhaust tips.

The Fabia RS models will fall into the hands of the Australian media later this month, and TMR's Malcolm Flynn will be at the event. Watch for his 'first drive' review.
