MITSUBISHI MIRAGE: SYDNEY MOTOR SHOW 2012

Mitsubishi Motors Australia whipped the covers off its new Mirage at the Australian International Motor Show. But hang on, this is just to whet the appetite; the new Mirage is not due to be released in Australia until January 2013.

There's an all-new design, class-leading fuel economy of 4.6 l/100kms (for the ES model), room for five inside (provided you’re genetically predisposed to narrow shoulders), and with power supplied by a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine.

With a maximum output of 57kW @ 6000rpm and 100Nm of torque @ 4000rpm, Mitsubishi is claiming “peppy performance”, effortless acceleration and easy-to-drive manoeuvrability with a best-in-class turning radius of just 4.4 metres for the ES.

Lauching as a three-model range - ES, ES Sport and the better-equipped LS - the new Mirage offers a choice of a five speed manual or CVT automatic.

With all in the range offering sub-5.0 l/100kmfuel consumption, and very low CO2 emissions of 109g/km in the ES, 113g/km in the LS manual and 115g/km in the LS CVT, Mitsubishi is confident of a five-star Green Vehicle Guide rating.

The 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine utilises Mitsubishi Motors’ MIVEC variable valve timing system, reduced friction-losses in all moving parts and weight-saving technologies air-intake and exhaust systems, fuel system, cooling and ancillary components.

MMAL’s CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri said, “The Mirage is great value for money, offering lively performance and a brand new stylish design which we are confident will appeal to customers.”

“The Mirage is impressive because it balances high performance and functionality with fuel efficiency in a compact, yet spacious, package that is fun to drive.”

The interior boasts “high-efficiency packaging”, maximising space for occupants by keeping the engine compartment as small as possible.

With glossy piano-black inserts, a clean-look dash top (with two-tone dash and door trims), and silver accents in the up-specced LS model, there is a modern and spacious feel inside.
