Mercedes-Benz has got itself a little turned around. Details of its monstrous G 63 AMG wagon were revealed earlier this month, but it wasn't until today that the first images were issued.
But with little externally to set it apart from the updated-for-2013 G-Class (itself barely changed on the outside), today's release offers little in the way of 'new' news.
That said, it certainly looks tough enough. There's a brand-new front bumper creating a more purposeful appearance than the standard bumper fitted to its predecessor, along with a unique grille garnish and larger wheel-arch flares.
AMG's familiar five-spoke wheels fill out the guards, and quad-exhaust pipes are also featured, with a chromed pair poking out from below each of the rear doors.
Replacing the G 55 AMG, the G 63 is powered by Merc's new 5.5 litre bi-turbo V8, its 400kW and 760Nm bettering the 373kW output of the old supercharged 5.4 litre mill.
Above the G 63 AMG is the G 65 AMG, powered by the familiar 6.0 litre twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering a huge 450kW and 1000Nm of torque.
Both engines are matched to a four-wheel-drive layout and a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The updated G-Class range is due in Australia in the second quarter of 2013.
