Mercedes-Benz has subtly previewed the refreshed-for-2013 E 63 AMG performance saloon, ahead of its public debut at next week’s Detroit Auto Show.
Revealed in a single group shot of the entire 2013 E class lineup, the E 63 sedan is seen riding high on the banking of Mercedes’ Stuttgart-Unterturkheim test track.
Visually, the new E 63 matches the regular 2013 E Class’ singular headlights and pontoon-free flanks, but adds an E 63-specific front fascia with large organically shaped intakes on each side.
Earlier spy photos suggested that the E 63’s rear end will score a corresponding rear fascia update, but this is not visible in the teaser.
The teaser’s accompanying information confirms that the 2013 E 63 will be available internationally with the 4Matic all-wheel drivetrain for the first time, but this option is expected to be exclusive to left-hand-drive markets.
The E 63’s driveline is otherwise not likely to change, with the current 386kW/700Nm (410kW/800Nm with optional Performance Pack) 5.5 litre twin-turbo V8 and seven-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission combination introduced in 2011.
Australia
The refreshed 2013 E 63 performance flagship is expected to arrive locally in the latter half of the year, after the Sedan and Estate’s mid-year debut, and the Coupe and Convertible’s September confirmed on-sale date.
All 2013 E 63 details will be confirmed in the coming hours, keep an eye on TMR for the full report.
