Sales of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class have skyrocketed since its arrival at the end of last month, with national supply so tight that Mercedes has had to pull cars destined for its media test fleet and redirect them to dealers.

At the time of launch there were already just under one thousand pre-orders for the A-Class, with around half of those for the A 250 Sport - the range-topper until the A 45 AMG arrives in August.

With an initial allocation of roughly 200 cars per month, Mercedes-Benz expected those pre-orders to account for the first five months of sales.

However, with the surge of interest in Benz's new entry-level model the automaker's local arm will be scrambling to find enough cars to satisfy demand.
