2013 Mazda6 Production Begins In Japan

Mazda has kicked off production of the all-new Mazda6 in Japan, ahead of its global premiere at next month's Moscow Motor Show. 

Announced today at Mazda's Hofu Plant Number 2 in the Japan prefecture of Yamaguchi, the news was followed by the first new car to roll off the line: a 2.0 litre SkyActiv-G petrol Mazda6 wagon bound for Europe.

The ceremony coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Nishinoura district of the Hofu plant, and the 10th anniversary for production of the first Mazda6 in 2002. 

“That first Mazda6 debuted as an embodiment of Mazda’s brand message, Zoom-Zoom, and its success led to great improvement in our brand image," Mazda Chairman, President and CEO Takashi Yamanouchi said.

“The new Mazda6 that starts rolling off the line today features both SkyActiv technology and our Kodo 'Soul of Motion' design. Its development represents the very best of our engineering capability and our uncompromising attention to detail."

The 2013 Mazda6 is also the first model to be equipped with Mazda’s new capacitor-based brake energy regeneration system, i-ELOOP.
