It happened with the Mazda CX-5, and with Ford's Ranger, and it can't be avoided: an 'approximate' Australian price for the new 2013 Mazda6 has been revealed this week, thanks to a new online contest.
Launched by Mazda ahead of the new model's local launch, the contest offers fans the chance to win a top-spec Mazda6 GT. Under Australian law, pricing must be listed in the contest's terms and conditions.
Spied by an eagle-eyed TMR reader with a penchant for the fine print, details of the contest reveal an "approximate" price of $56,000 for "the total prize pool".
The prize car is likely to be well-featured; the current top-spec Mazda6 carries a Manufacturer's List Price of $43,115 - a figure that excludes on-road costs.
Readers should note that the 'approximate' price listed in the contest includes all on-road costs, along with unspecified accessories "as determined by the promoter".
On-road costs include dealer delivery and statutory charges, 12 months’ registration and stamp duty.
The model listed in the contest is powered by Mazda's 2.2 litre SkyActive-D diesel engine, and if the CX-5 is any indicator, we can likely expect petrol models to enter around $3000 less.
