Lexus has announced this week that the all-new 2013 Lexus GS range will make its global debut at next month's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California.

Appearing in the GS 350 spec, the latest incarnation of Lexus' big luxury sedan is expected to mirror the brutish LF-Gh concept shown at April's New York Auto Show.

Lexus promises a "a more defined and emotional design philosophy" for the new sedan's styling. The new GS will also preview the next generation of Lexus models, including a "distinctive" grille design.

"Our customers have been waiting for a new GS that's more intense in every way," Lexus boss Mark Templin said. "They'll soon discover this GS was well worth the wait."

A number of facts and figures were also revealed this week during a press event in the US, including engine and interior details.

Power for the new GS will be provided exclusively by a range of six-cylinder engines. In the case of the GS 350, that means a revised version of the current 3.5 litre engine, producing more power and delivering improved fuel consumption figures.

Don't expect a V8 engine anywhere in the range, with Lexus instead looking to a performance-tuned hybrid version of the 3.5 litre petrol engine.

It won't be the long-reported GS F, but it will be the range's flagship model, likely sporting an F Sport enhancement kit with sportier styling and the usual handling upgrades.

Watch for the high-powered hybrid GS hybrid to appear at September's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Gear shifting in the new GS the will be managed by a six-speed automatic transmission only, foregoing the seven- and eight-speed options of its competitors in favour of a wider range and higher grade of standard-fit gadgets.

Inside, the GS will feature a giant 12.3-inch widescreen display in the centre of an LFA-inspired dash.

Weight has also been cut, with the 2013 GS shedding 70kg to bring it down to a relatively slim 1650kg.

Reports from the GS event suggest we may also see the end of the IS F's V8, in favour of the same hybrid V6 formula. Killing off the 5.0 litre V8 is reportedly due to Europe's tightening emissions laws.
