UPDATE: Read TMR's Trax review here.

Holden's compact new Trax SUV is now on sale in Australia, following the overseas launch of its Chevrolet-badged twin in 2012.

Kicking off at $23,490 plus on-roads, the Trax undercuts the entry level variants of the Nissan Dualis, Mitsubishi ASX and Hyundai ix35 - while also giving Holden a crucial headstart on Ford's EcoSport, due here in December.

“The SUV segment continues to grow rapidly with small SUV sales growing 20 per cent this year," Holden marketing boss Philip Brook said today.

The Trax will be offered with familiar LS and LTZ trim grades, both powered by the same 1.8 litre four-cylinder petrol engine offered with the Cruze range
