Volvo Australia has announced availability of the updated-for-2012 XC60, bringing improved safety and performance, along with more standard features and new pricing.

Volvo's top-selling model is now also the first car in its class to feature a reversing camera as standard across the range.

For 2012, the entire XC60 line-up has been revised, with highly-equipped new variants replacing the option packages that were available with the 2011 range.

There are now 10 models in the XC60 range and, depending on the model, four engine choices. The XC60 T5 remains the entry-level variant, priced from $54,990.

Although the T5's new price represents an $840 increase, Volvo says it has also gained $2570 worth of additional features.

Entertainment is improved in the T5, 3.2 and D5 models, with each now equipped with a DVD player and a seven-inch screen. The T6 also gains a 12 speaker system as standard, along with Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound and Bluetooth streaming audio.

For 2012, the R-Design models become the new range-topping choice, featuring the same styling updates but gaining the additional features previous offered with the Teknik Variants.

Both the R-Design and the Teknik models gain Volvo's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) as standard, along with the Volvo Navigation System  and voice control for phone calls and navigation. 

Active Bending Lights are also now standard on all Teknik and R-Design models.

Volvo's third-generation Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is available as an option on all models, featuring Queue Assist, Pedestrian Detection and Full Auto Brake.

ACC allows drivers to automatically maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, using a radar sensor and digital camera integrated with the cruise control.

The XC60's 2.4 litre twinturbo diesel engine has been improved for 2012, with power increased from 151kW and 420Nm of torque to 158kW and 440Nm. 

Despite the increased power, fuel consumption has improved by 10 percent, now listed at 6.9 l/100km. CO2 emissions have dropped from 201g/km to 183g/km. 

This upgrade means that the D5 models qualify as low-emission vehicles, benefitting from the recent changes to the Luxury Car Tax ruling. 

The new XC60 D5 now starts from $60,990, the D5 Teknik is $65,990 and the D5 R-Design is now the flagship model in the D5 range at $68,990.

Pricing for the D5 R-Design $4340 more expensive then the previous D5 R-Design, but Volvo says the 2012 model has gained a huge $13,770 worth of extra equipment.

The recently-released T5 engine carries on as the entry point into the XC60 range. Powered by the new 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol GTDi engine, the T5 produces 177kW and 320Nm.

Mated to a dual-clutch six-speed Powershift transmission, the T5's fuel consumption is listed at 8.7 l/100km.

The XC60's 3.2 litre six-cylinder engine continues unchanged, producing 179kW and 320Nm. There are two models available with this engine: the XC60 3.2 and the XC60 3.2 Teknik.

At the top end of the XC60 engine range is the T6 3.0 litre turbocharged six cylinder petrol engine, producing 224kW and 440Nm. Fuel consumption remains unchanged at 10.5L/100km.

The T6 R-Design is the new flagship model in the XC60 range, priced from $75,990 - an increase of $5340 over the MY11 R-Design model.

Among the T6 R-Design's now standard features are active bending lights (previously a $2650 option) and a Premium Multimedia system. Volvo says that, in total, the 2012 T6 R Design gains $9400 of extra equipment.''
