Subaru has confirmed that its 2012 Impreza-based XV crossover will make its production debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show

Revealed in concept form at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year, the XV was all-but locked in when three months later Subaru announced plans a trio of new models.

According to Subaru Australia, a local debut hasn't been confirmed, but its appearance at this year's Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne was described by the company's local arm as "a big hit."

With the current Impreza range already featuring a high-riding XV variant, it appears likely that the new XV will join the line-up.

Production specifications have yet to be revealed, but in concept form, the XV is powered by Subaru's new third-generation 2.0 litre boxer engine. With the same engine driving the new Impreza range, it's likely that it will carry over into the production XV.

Watch for more details to be revealed at Frankfurt.
