The release of the first ‘official’ teaser images of MINI’s muscled-up JCW Countryman marks the start of the pre-release marketing campaign, and provides us with our clearest idea yet of what to expect.

With testing well underway in Austria, and a Geneva Motor Show debut mooted, the harder charging Countryman is sticking to the tried and true JCW formula; an exterior cosmetics upgrade, bigger brakes, re-tuned suspension and more mumbo under the bonnet.

Cosmetically the JCW version of the Countryman sports a more aggressive look. Gone is the cheerful look of the standard car, and in its place is an angrier ‘face’ with downturned grille and multiple air intakes.

There is also a new rear fascia, dual exhaust system, the requisite black body striping and John Cooper Works (JCW) badging.

Larger and more aerodynamic sill skirts add to the aggressive, hunkered-down look, as does the sports tuned suspension which sits the JCW 10mm lower.

Up-rated anti-roll bars will help with stability by reducing body-roll, while larger brakes and alloy wheels are expected, although not overly obvious in the teaser image.

We liked the regular Countryman (2011 Countryman Review) but thought its extra mass deserved more than the 90kW on offer from its naturally aspirated 1.6 litre engine.

The JCW is expected to up the ante considerably in this regard, with a turbo-charged 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine producing 155Kw and 280Nm.

Sounds like the perfect Countryman?
