Korean giant-slayer Hyundai has brought a number of new vehicles to this week's Australian International Motor Show, including the new Elantra and the upcoming i40 wagon, Accent sedan and hatch (pictured above), and the sporty Tiburon-replacing Veloster.

While the Elantra has now been in Hyundai showrooms for a few weeks, the Accent sedan and hatch will make their sales debut next month.

The i40 wagon will partner Hyundai's existing midsize i45 sedan when it makes its Australian debut later this year, along with the most hotly-anticipated model in the new Hyundai line-up: the Veloster.

2011 Hyundai Elantra On Sale Now

2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA

The all-new Elantra made its sales debut late last month, putting to rest speculation that it would - like the i30, ix35, i45 and upcoming i40 - adopt an alphanumeric 'iXX' name.

Flowing with Hyundai's now familiar 'Fluidic Sculpture' styling language, the new Elantra is powered by Hyundai's 1.8 litre 'Nu' MPI petrol engine, producing 110kW and 178Nm of torque.

Paired with Hyundai's relatively new six-speed automatic transmission, the 2011 Elantra's fuel consumption is listed at 7.1 l/100km. With a six-speed manual, available only with the Active, fuel consumption is listed at 6.6 l/100km.

2012 Hyundai Accent On Sale From August

2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT

Slotting into the size and price bracket between the dimunitive i20 hatch and the larger Elantra and i30 models, the new 2012 Accent will go on sale in Australia in August, arriving in both five-door hatch and four-door sedan form.

Internationally, the new Accent is offered with three petrol engines and four diesel engines.

Options range from the small 79kW 1.4 litre Gamma engine, to the newer direct-injected 103kW 1.6 litre Gamma engine.

Diesel engines include 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre CRDi units, with the larger engine producing 95kW and 260Nm of torque.

Although local specifications and pricing have not been revealed, we can likely expect the 1.6 litre petrol engines to feature. Expect pricing to land somewhere around $16,990.

2012 Hyundai i40 Wagon In Australia By Late 2011

2012 HYUNDAI I40

Another local first for Hyundai at AIMS was the appearance of the upcoming i40 Wagon. Designed and engineered in Germany for the European market, the i40 Wagon largely reflects the styling of the i45.

Overseas, the i40 Wagon is offered with three engine choics: a 1.7 litre diesel engine available in 85kW and 100kW guises, along with 104kW 1.6 litre and 130kW 2.0 litre direct-injected petrol engines.

The i40 Wagon is expected to be sold alongside the i45 sedan, giving Hyundai a competitor to the medium Mazda6 and Ford Mondeo wagons.

A late-2011 launch for the i40 Wagon is scheduled.

2012 Hyundai Veloster To Debut In Late 2011

2012 HYUNDAI VELOSTER

Launching around the same time as the new i40 Wagon will be Hyundai's replacement for the retired Tiburon: the quirky but quick-looking 2012 Veloster.

The uniquely-styled Veloster has an intriguing arrangment to its doors. On the driver's side, the coupe features one door and a regular rear-quarter window, while the passenger side gains a small rear passenger door - allowing passengers to exit without unsettling the front occupants.

The Veloster is powered by Hyundai's 103kW/166Nm 1.6 litre GDi 'gamma' four-cylinder engine - the smallest engine in Hyundai's line-up to benefit from direct injection.

While certainly not overburdened with power, weighing in at just 1170kg, the Veloster should still have some shuffle.

The 1.6 litre engine will be mated to a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or Hyundai's new six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
