BMW's all-new 2012 6 Series moves a step closer to its Australian debut with the announcement today of pricing and specifications for the high-powered Convertible range.

Buying into the 2+2 seating 6 Series line-up is now possible for under $200,000, with the 3.0 litre six-cylinder twin-turbo 640i offering 235kW and 450Nm of torque from $194,300 (plus on-roads).

Topping the two-car range is the 650i, powered by a 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 300kW and a hefty 600Nm of torque. For that one, be prepared to part with $248,300 and costs.

In the 640i, the 0-100km/h sprint is wrapped up in 5.7 seconds, while the 650i will cover the distance in 5.0 seconds. Fuel consumption for the 650i flagship is listed at 10.7 l/100km, and 640i owners can look forward to a return of 7.9 l/100km.

Both models are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that features steering-mounted shift paddles for manual control.

Fuel-saving technologies in the new 6 Series include Brake Energy Regeneration, High Precision Injection, Electric Power Steering, Auto Start/Stop and Air Vent Control.

Features

Standard equipment for both variants includes Dynamic Drive Control, 19-inch alloy wheels, Cruise Control with brake function, adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights, Internet, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, lumbar support, seat heating, Navigation System Professional, Rear View Camera, front and rear Park Distance Control, Sports Seats (650i features Comfort Seats) and a full colour Head-Up Display.

Standard specification for the 650i will include Adaptive Drive, Comfort Seats, Surround View, TV function, Automatic soft-close function for doors, Professional HiFi System and seat ventilation for the front seats.

For both models, a new free-standing 10.2-inch screen is featured in the cabin, rising up from the dash for both the driver and front passenger to view.

Adaptive Drive, which incorporates Dynamic Damper Control and the Dynamic Drive active roll stabilisation system, is fitted as standard for the 650i, and as an option for the 640i.

Four driving modes are featured with the Adaptive Drive system (Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+), adjusting variable damper settings to suit the road surface and driver preference.

Both models can also be fitted with Parking Assistant, along with the new DAB+ Radio Tuner announced in April.

BMW’s Integral Active Steering is also available as an option, designed to reduce the turning circle of the car at low speeds and optimise cornering at higher speeds.
