2012 Audi A6 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI Launched In Australia, Hybrid Coming

Audi Australia has announced the addition of two new variants to the A6 sedan range, bringing the price of entry to Audi's large saloon down from over $90,000 to just $77,900.

The new base model is the A6 2.0 TFSI, which is front-wheel-drive only and powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol inline four. The 2.0 TFSI produces 132kW and 320Nm of torque, and can sprint from zero to 100km/h in 8.3 seconds.

A fuel-saving start-stop system, mutlitronic automatic transmission and regenerative braking are standard, and the A6 2.0 TFSI consumes just 6.4 l/100km on the combined cycle.

The A6 2.0 TDI is also front-drive only, and produces 130kW and 380Nm from its 2.0 litre turbodiesel four.

Despite being the most fuel-efficient model in the 2012 A6 range (it sips only 5.0 l/100km), it's also a shade quicker than the 2.0 TFSI, hitting 100km/h from rest in 8.2 seconds.

Both the A6 2.0 TFSI and A6 2.0 TDI are fitted with a multitronic CVT gearbox as standard, which also offers a sports mode and eight fixed ratios.

A hybrid A6 variant will also eventually join the range, however its arrival date has yet to be confirmed. The A6 hybrid combines a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine outputting 155kW and 350Nm of torque with a 33kW/211Nm electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack.

The hybrid sends drive to the front wheels exclusively via an eight-speed automatic and can reach speeds up to 100km/h on electric power alone. It's hardly slow too, hitting triple-digit speeds in just 7.3 seconds.

Pricing

Pricing for the V6 powered A6 variants remains unchanged for 2012, with the new four-cylinder models significantly undercutting their German rivals from BMW (520d and 528i), and Mercedes-Benz (E250 CGI and E250 CDI).
