Suzuki has announced Australian availability of its new-for-2011 GSX-R 750, continuing the legend of the race replica model launched in 1985.

For 2011, the GSX-R 750 is built on a shorter and more compact wheelbase, while new engine technology means broader power delivery and improved throttle response.

"With significant refinements made across the whole machine, including eight kilograms being shaved off the total weight, the latest generation GSX-R750 is ready to set a new benchmark for street legal supersport motorcycles," Suzuki Australia's General Manager for Motorcycles, Perry Morrison said.

Improvements to throttle response are thanks to the latest generation of Suzuki's Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS), revised in the new GSX-R 750 to optimise engine output while also giving riders the choice of two engine maps to suit their preference.

Of most interest to enthusiasts will be the 2011 GSX-R 750's all-new chassis, developed with an emphasis on compactness and reducing weight - leading, Suzuki says, to improved overall handling and an "ideal" power-to-weight ratio.

Featuring just five cast sections and a cast swingarm, the lightweight twin-spar aluminium frame was designed to deliver optimum cornering ability and class-leading accuracy and rigidity.

Also new for 2011 are the GSX-R 750's inverted, lightweight Showa Big Piston Front-forks. These are paired with four-piston Brembo monoblock front brake calipers and 310mm dual floating discs, and a single-piston rear brake caliper with a 220mm disc.

The 2011 model also gets a newly designed muffler and a reduction in fairing overhang for wind protection and drag reduction.

A reshaped fuel tank, vertically stacked dual headlights and mirror-mounted turn signals round out the aerodynamic and styling features for 2011.

Pricing and Availability

The 2011 GSX-R 750 is available now, priced from $16,990 (inc GST, plus on-road costs).
