2011 FPV GT Range Launched In Australia

Following yesterday's launch of the 2011 GS, FPV has today announced the 2011 FPV GT, GT-P and GT E in Australia, with all three to go on sale from October 25.

As with the GS, FPV's three GT models are all powered by the company's new 'Miami' 5.0 litre V8. Based on the 'Coyote' V8 powering the US-market Mustang, the Miami engine is made up of parts sourced both locally and internationally.

While the GS offers a 2010 GT-matching 315kW, the top-shelf 2011 GT triplets get a more powerful version of the supercharged Miami engine, developing 335kW and 570Nm of torque.

Although based on the Mustang's engine, local development, modification and adaptation formed part of a $40 million program for Ford Australia's British partner in FPV, Prodrive.

“The new engine is amazing, its all-round performance frankly sets a benchmark for Australian-made cars, and the exciting thing is that it has been developed here, for our cars," FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said.

“FPV’s customers certainly won’t be disappointed by the performance of the new GT range, or in the way the cars drive, and they have real presence with the new graphics package."

With the new V8 being the main drawcard for the 2011 FPV range, exterior and interior updates for the GT, GT-P and GT E have been kept to a minimum.

In the case of the GT and GT-P, a new 'hockey stick' graphic runs along the body, leading up into 'Boss 335' identifiers and new graphic bands along the bonnet. 

The luxury GT E model retains its low-profile demeanour, sans stripes.

According to FPV's Rod Barrett, the new engine's 47kg lighter construction and re-tuned front and back suspension have given the 2011 GT range a new lease on life, with better all-round balance and sharper turn-in.

Thanks to the limited number of styling updates for the 2011 FPV range, the GT models now get new wheel designs to help set them apart from the outgoing 2010 line-up.

The GT gets 19-inch five-spoke alloys with a machined face and Dark Argent accents, the GT-P gets 19in five-spoke alloys with a machined face and Sparkle Silver accents, and the GT E gets 19in 10-spoke alloys finished in Alpine Silver.

Pricing and Availability

Final showroom pricing for the new GT range has yet to be confirmed, although early indicative Manufacturer's List Prices are listed below.

• 2011 FPV GT - $71,290
• 2011 FPV GT-P - $80,990
• 2011 FPV GT E - $81,450

Six-speed automatic transmission is a no-cost option on the GT and GT-P, while the GT-E is available in auto only.
