Yamaha FZ8N And FZ8S Launched In Australia

Yamaha has announced availability of two new models in the popular FZ series, the naked FZ8N and the semi-faired FZ8S. The FZ8 models replace the hugely successful FZ6, which sold over 250,000 units worldwide since its debut in 1998.

Built on an all-aluminium frame and powered by a new 779cc engine, both FZ8 bikes produce 80kW at 10,000rpm and 82Nm of torque at 8000rpm.

The new FZ8-series engine is fuel injected, and uses both a throttle valve and an electronically controlled subthrottle valve to provide additional control over intake airflow volume.

The cylinder bodies have a bore and stroke from 68.0x53.6mm. Readings on engine rpm and throttle opening are processed in real time by the ECU, which operates a new stepping motor to control the sub-throttle valves and optimise volumetric efficiency in each part of the rev range, aimed at boosting low-middle drive.

The FZ8 also features a large-capacity 7.8 litre airbox, where the air funnels are two different lengths - cylinders 1 and 4 have 125mm intake funnels, where 2 and 3 are 150mm in length, producing an improved spread of torque throughout the rev range.

The FZ8N weighs in at 211kg (wet weight with 17 litres of fuel), and the fairings of the N pushes its weight up slightly to 215kg (wet with fuel). Wheelbase measures 1460mm for both, with 17-inch wheels wearing a 120/70 tyre up front and 180/55 rubber at the rear.

On the styling front, the FZ8 draws inspiration from its more powerful FZ1 sibling, particularly in the headlight, seat, muffler and header pipes design.

Both are available now in two colour schemes per model, priced at $12,990 for the naked 'N' model and $13,990 for rthe 'S' model.
