A SURVEY by car insurer 1Cover - reported last week on this site - saw Australian motorists rate New South Wales drivers as the worst in the country, with Western Australia's drivers considered the best.

This week, a new survey by RAC WA has found that motorists on the West Coast are less-inclined to agree, with 55 percent of respondents describing the standard of driving in Western Australia as the worst of all the states.

The survey results, taken from over 1400 participants, showed that some 80 percent of WA drivers claim they witness dangerous driving every day.

Over 70 percent believe WA drivers are the worst at merging, and 60 percent rate the standard of driving in the state as poor or very poor.

Only seven percent of Western Australia's motorists rated the state's drivers as good or excellent.

Keeping a safe distance between cars, according to 64 percent of respondents, is a low priority for WA drivers.

RAC WA spokesman Matt Brown said the results show a need for the State Government to promote greater driver training and road awareness.
