Despite being based on the same Ford C1 platform utilised by the Mazda3 and Ford Focus, both of which are available with different body styles, the Volvo C30 has made do exclusively as a hatchback since its release. However, if recent rumours are accurate then that could all be about to change.

Dutch site Autotelegraaf recently stated that Volvo is aiming to release a new model each year for the next three to four years. The range is said to include the V30 crossover, an S60 replacement, and the already revealed XC60 SUV.

It's expected that the Volvo V50, which recently received a facelift for 2008, will be replaced by an S60 wagon at the end of its life-cycle. This would pave the way for a V30 wagon to slot right into the Volvo product line-up without cannibalising existing sales.

If each offering is as well-proportioned and finished as the C30, then we can expect some tantalising offerings from Volvo in the next few years. Volvo, struggling here and down 6.7% in the US (Reuters) could certainly do with a shot in the arm.
