Volkswagen to enter WRC? That's the rumour right now and there's no reason why it couldn't, or shouldn't, go ahead. Reports indicate that VW motorsport head-honcho Kris Nissen attended the Finland Rally recently to discuss 'stuff' with ISC CEO Simon Long and manufacturer team leaders.

Mark Deans, Ford Motorsport Team boss, revealed that VW, Renault, Skoda, and Fiat have all shown interest in joining (or re-joining) the series, though it remains unsure if Renault, Skoda and Fiat will actually head straight into full WRC-level events or if they'll stick to S2000 and S2000+ classes for now.

Certainly, entry into the WRC would give VW more publicity for its sports and performance offerings. To date there has been little for enthusiasts to talk about from a company so large. We're all aware that VW makes some great turbo vehicles, 4-Motion and DSG transmissions. But it's always good to see a manufacturer's efforts being thoroughly tested. WRC is arguably the toughest test-bed of them all.

Plus, if the Scirocco GT24 is anything to go by, whatever VW builds will - at the very least - look great.
