We're keenly awaiting the arrival of Volkswagen's Scirocco to these shores. There is a lot of appeal in those stylish good looks and promising spec-sheet. And while the standard car definitely has our attention, news that VW is preparing a red-hot R20T version has us salivating with anticipation.

Power will come from the same 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbo engine used in the Audi S3 which will pump out close to 200kWs. This should translate into a 0-100km/h time in the five second bracket.

Volkswagen is said to be taking the R20T's styling cues from the Scirocco GT24 racer, sans a few Nurburgring-specific goodies such as the massive rear-wing and front-splitter. So, no problems with it having enough show to match the go.

Reports indicate Volkswagen has opted to go for an R20T version of the Scirocco instead of a 3.2 V6 R32 derivative for fuel economy and emissions reasons. Given the four-pot is just as capable, it sounds like a wise move to us.

The Scirocco R20T is expected to hit UK dealerships in 2010. As yet there's no word on whether we'll see it locally. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for any new information, so stay tuned.
