BMW has issues a recall for its i3 range-extended electric models in Australia, due to a potential fuel leak.

The carmaker has identified a weakness with the i3’s fuel tank ventilation line, which may make contact with the vehicle, rubbing through.

The resulting damage may allow fuel to leak, leading to a potential fire hazard.

As the i3 BEV (battery-only) has no fuel tank, it is unaffected by this recall.

Affected i3s were sold between July 2014 and November 2016, with 224 examples on the recall list for Australia.

BMW will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone BMW Australia on 1800 813 299.
