TOYOTA HAS REVEALED a pair of teaser images for a new dedicated hybrid concept it will unveil at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show in January.

The world number one carmaker is withholding all other information on the newest of its hybrid concepts, though more information is likely to filter out as the Detroit show draws nearer.

From what little can be seen in the teaser images, the concept is likely to be a small city car, around the size of the brand's existing supermini model, the Toyota iQ.

Details of the new hybrid's powertrain are unknown, and whether it will utilise the same hybrid drive system as the larger Prius or a new system remains to be seen.

In November, Toyota confirmed that it is developing hybrid systems that draw power from more powerful lithium batteries rather than the current nickel metal hydride cells.

Earlier this week, Toyota announced it will unveil a new ultra-small car at next year's New Delhi Auto Show in India, priced to compete with offerings from Tata and Maruti Suzuki.

At the same time, Toyota Australia unveiled the 2010 Hybrid Camry in a ceremony at the company's Altona assembly plan, where the car will be built.
