Sydney Parking The World’s Fifth Most Expensive

SYDNEY IS OFTEN ranked among the world's best cities, but this year it bears the honour of being one of the most expensive to park a car in.

Ranked fifth in the world in the 2009 Colliers International Global CBD Parking Rate Survey, Sydney is joined in the top 10 by Brisbane (7th) and Perth (9th).

According to the survey, which ranks cities by their average monthly unreserved parking rates, Sydney motorists pay $644 per month to park in Australia's biggest city.

Brisbane follows at $579, with New York City's $602 (Midtown, specifically) nestled between them.

Perth is a close third on the list of Australian cities, lifting about $566 from West Australian CBD workers and visitors each month.

Melbourne, well outside the top 10 at 25th, lists an average monthly cost of $372. The nation's second biggest city is followed by Adelaide with $241 and Canberra at $223.

Hobart and Darwin did not make the list.

The world's most expensive CBD to park in is London, costing motorists a whopping $1116 each month. London's West End follows closely with a $1045 monthly average.

The cheapest parking in the world can be found in India, where parking can be had for an average of around $1 per day, or $32 per month.
