Sydney Motor Show 2007 will feature Ferrari F430 Scuderia

Ferrari are bringing their 430 Scuderia to the 2007 Australian International Motor Show due to get underway on October 11 making this the second world public appearance of the new Ferrari since it’s debut in Frankfurt earlier this month. Much more than a new version of the Ferrari F430 the V8-engined 430 Scuderia takes all the latest technology from Ferrari’s Formula One and road cars to produce a new model that is much more than just faster. It is as quick around the Ferrari Fiorano test track as the V12-powered Ferrari Enzo.

The 430 Scuderia blasts (literally) from 0 to 100kmh in 3.6 seconds, and 0 to 200kmh in 11.6 seconds. The standing kilometre takes all of 20.9 seconds on the way to a top speed in excess of 320 kmh.

Far from just being a drag strip star the 430 Scuderia uses the latest Ferrari technology, including sophisticated aerodynamics, F1-SuperFast2 gearbox and E-Diff coupled with the sophisticated F1-Trac traction control system all tested and tuned by Michael Schumacher to ensure it maintains the Ferrari tradition of excelling on twisty tarmac.

Despite the performance leap, the 430 Scuderia has a better Carbon Dioxide figure and a lower official fuel consumption figure than the standard Ferrari 430, which just goes to show that efficient well tuned engines result in more power and improved emissions. Ferrari’s engineers have honed the Scuderia’s bodywork in the wind tunnel and managed to increase downforce by 30 kg (compared to the normal F430), with no corresponding increase in drag.

Ferrari claim that there are 40 or so Australians and New Zealanders who have expressed interest in buying the 430 Scuderia but they will be waiting until at least mid-2008 if not later as intense worldwide demand sees initial production being snapped up. Which means for the average Aussie the Australian International Motor Show will be the only opportunity to see the Ferrari 430 Scuderia in the flesh.

Aerodynamic

• Deeper, reshaped front bumper

• Deeper, reshaped side skirts

• Changed rear deck shape with raised leading edge

• Larger diffuser, extra vanes

• Re-routed exhaust pipes to allow greater airflow through rear diffuser

• Total down force now 310 kg at 200 kmh, up 30 kg with no increase in drag.

Weight

• The bumpers and sills are made of a new material, RTM, that is light and cost effective

• The glass rear window is replaced by Lexan

• Door mirrors in carbon fibre

• Door panels in carbon fibre.

• Lightweight flooring

• Simplified audio system

• Alcantara interior trim saves weight

• Racing style light weight seats, but still fully adjustable

• Weight down from 1450 kg to 1350 kg

New Technology

• E-diff is fully integrated with the electronic stability control system for the first time

• Traction control and electronic stability system now separated for driver selection

• Electronic stability control system and suspension now separated for driver selection

• Gearchange time is cut by F1-SuperFast2 to 60 milliseconds, compared to 100ms for the 599 and 150ms in Enzo.

• New Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyre that lifts rear grip by 11 per cent and front grip by 20 per cent

• New 398 mm carbo-ceramic brake discs and brake calipers (18 mm bigger than F430)

• Lighter titanium springs, new ZF dampers, 30 per cent stiffer suspension.

Engine Changes

• Compression ratio lifted from 11.3:1 to 11.88:1

• New Carbon fibre airbox

• New light weight exhaust

• New ignition system and engine management programs

• Power up from 360.3 kW to 375.4 kW

• Torque up from 465 Nm to 470 Nm with a lower, flatter curve

Environmental

• Fuel Consumption: Combined figure down from 18.3 l/100 km to 15.7 l/100 km

• CO2: Down from 420 g/km to 360 g/km
