This year's Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) will mark the local debut of the upcoming 2011 Range Rover Evoque, event organisers FCAI and VACC have confirmed.

Expected to go on sale in Australia late next year, the production-ready Evoque's debut in Sydney this coming October will follow the model's international unveiling at a private event in London last month.

The Evoque's first public appearance however will take place at the Paris Auto Show, just days before AIMS.

"Sydney has been confirmed as one of the top 10 global markets for Evoque, and we expect strong levels of interest and enquiry at the Australian International Motor Show,"  Land Rover/Range Rover Australia Director, Chris Lidis said.

Technical details for the Evoque remain unknown, with the British carmaker opting to keep details and images of the Evoque close to its chest until the new model's unveiling at the Paris Auto Show in September.

Land Rover has confirmed that both 4WD and 2WD versions of the Evoque will be offered. A five-door variant has been spied testing in recent weeks.

Another SUV scheduled to appear at Sydney this year is the 2011 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid. While the big fuel-efficient SUV is already available in Australia, Sydney will mark its first Southern Hemisphere motor show debut.

“The Cayenne S Hybrid, indeed the entire new Cayenne range, represents Porsche Intelligent Performance of reduced weight, increased efficiency while enhancing driver enjoyment,” Porsche Cars Australia Managing Director, Michael Winkler said.

The Cayenne S Hybrid combines a 248kW 3.0 litre petrol V6 Audi engine with a 35kW electric motor, powered by lithium ion batteries. Fuel consumption for the Hybrid model is listed at just 8.2 l/100km.

The Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour from 15-24 October.
