This morning saw one big rumour for Nissan, so it’s only fair that Toyota gets one too, right?

According to US site InsideLine, Toyota is believed to be planning a display for the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show that would take full advantage of the absence of just about every other manufacturer.

With BMW and Mercedes-Benz likely to follow more than a few other manufacturers onto the no-show boat (it's catching on these days), Toyota may use the opportunity to reveal (finally) the production version of the 445kW Lexus LF-A supercar.

If that weren’t enough, the Toyota/Subaru joint project RWD entry-level sports car – dubbed ‘O86A’ – might make an appearance as well.

There have been plenty of on-again off-again stories online about both the LF-A and the O86A, but with new Toyota president Akio Toyoda a known sports car enthusiast, hopes for the success of these projects have been reignited.

For now, we’ll have to wait until October 23 to see if there’s any real meat in this porky pie.
