When we originally brought you news of the Porsche Panamera, the official word was that next year's Geneva Motor Show would play host to the official unveiling. Porsche's understanding of the increased importance of the Chinese market, and fast-developing neighbouring markets, has seen the Stuggart based manufacturer opt instead to launch the Panamera at the Shangai Motor Show in April.

Porsche's year-on-year sales figures for the region doubled last financial year, moving a total of 8,190 vehicles. Meanwhile in Germany, a traditionally strong market for Porsche, sales were down five percent.

Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking said that the company is looking for a stronger presence and new market opportunities in regions like China and the Middle East. China's emerging wealthy class, and booming middle class, represents an increasingly fertile field for up-market brands like Porsche and Ferrari.

With Porsche having set production targets around the 20,000 per year mark, the Panamera could become another lucrative cash-cow for Porsche. Production figures will be adjusted accordingly as demand dictates, but with the base model V6 RWD Panamera starting at AUD$157,600, and scaling up to AUD$246,250 for the range-topping ADW Turbo model, demand is unlikely to be an issue.

The Panamera will go on sale in June after a media test-drive has been conducted in Germany. Expect further details on each model as we get closer to launch.
