Via a leaked press release, Pontiac has announced that pricing for the 2009 G8 GXP - our HSV Clubsport for all intents and purposes - will be priced at a very reasonable USD$39,995.

That price will get our American friends the automatic version, though the manual is only an extra USD$695, and includes a hefty USD$1700 gas guzzler tax. As a direct conversion, this equates to a touch over $56,800 in local currency. That's a bloody steal!

The HSV Clubsport R8 retails here for $68,320 (Aussie dollars). Got to say, something about it being cheaper abroad leaves a funny taste in the mouth - we made the car after all.

The 415hp Pontiac is the most powerful production car to wear the badge and will hit 0-100km/h in under five-seconds. Understandably, the Americans are pretty excited about the G8 GXP's impending release and we're equally chuffed to know it's a homegrown product.

If only, and this is the big question, Holden can hang onto this export program. There are some uncomfortable noises coming from GM US regarding the Pontiac brand and its model line-up.
