There are moments in life where too much is simply not enough. To demonstrate the point Pagani has taken its already awe-inspiring Zonda and turned up the heat at the request of a customer.

The Pagani Zonda R adds more of everything to create a limited run of 10 track-only racers. After 24 months of development the Zonda R surfaces with a price tag of 1.4 million euros.

Despite looking deceptively similar to the Zonda F, the new car shares only 10 percent of its structure with previous cars. Beneath the carbon-fibre body is a 47mm longer wheelbase; tracks increase by 50mm and the overall length grows by 394mm. The front and rear sub-frames are all new to accommodate revised suspension geometry and the weight of the car has been kept to 1099 kilograms.

Power is provided by an AMG sourced, dry-sump 6.0 litre V12, derived from the CLK GTR engine. Peak power is 559kW at 8,000rpm, with 710Nm of torque available which enables the Zonda R to reach 60 mph from stand-still in just 3.2 seconds. Four aeronautical-spec fuel pumps take care of fuel delivery, a lightweight carbon fibre intake delivers air to the engine and a Formula 1 style Inconel and ceramic exhaust system removes spent gasses.

Power is channelled to the rear wheels via a six-speed, transversely mounted, sequential gearbox and is put to the ground through racing slicks mounted on magnesium rims. To help keep everything on track the revised aero package generates greater downforce at lower speeds to allow faster cornering. The car displays and logs all downforce data and in conjunction with adjustable spoilers can be set-up specifically for each race track the driver chooses to attend.

Amazingly the first Zonda R to be delivered will not be used on the track at all, instead the customer is having it installed in his living room where a bespoke Hi-Fi system will allow him to listen to the sound of his car completing laps of the Nürburgring and Le Mans circuit.
