Nissan’s SuperGT Domination Continues

Nissan's R35 GT-R has been an impressive bit of kit in just about every application, be it on the road or on the track. Just as we reported around this time back in March, the GT-R's motherland is home to the popular SuperGT series, showcasing heavily modified race-going versions of all the Japanese hero cars, and the latest GT-R has proven that 2008 belongs to Nissan.

With the news of Nissan's round 1 1-2 victory only just now beginning to fade, comes the announcement that the top two steps of the podium have again been claimed by a pair of GT-Rs—this time the Xanavi Nismo (driven by Satoshi Motoyama & Benoit Treluyer) GT-R returned for a second slice, and the Calsonic Impul (Tsugio Matsuda & Sebastien Philippe) GT-R joined them for the first time this year.

In fairness to the other makes, it was never a walkover for the GT-Rs. For much of the race, last year's champion the Arta Honda NSX was right on the lead GT-R's stovetops, and even considered a coup around the middle of the race. Unfortunately the NSX's hopes for a win were spoiled on lap 68 when it spun out, concluding the battle for at least this round.

Is this GT-R dominance a sign of what to expect for the remainder of the 2008 SuperGT series? When things like this happen in the Australian V8 Supercar series, someone's usually told to stick some cement blocks in the back, in the name of "parity". Careful Nissan, you're proving a little too successful here!
