Naughty Number Plates Beat The Censors

Trying to think of just the right combination of registration plate letters and numbers to stick it to the world? You’ll need to get creative, but it seems it’s not impossible.

While the likes of “SNATCH” , “ORGASM” and “MURDA” failed to make it through the registration process at Victoria’s VicRoads offices, more than a few clever (in a crude sort of way) plates have managed to slip through.

Some of the plates circulating on eBay and other trading websites include “GONADS” , “HOOTRZ” , “SMUT69 and “FNMEAN” .

For those who get a kick out of besting the censors at VicRoads, the plates “FU2” stand as the biggest win.

Alan Lane, a Melbourne businessman, owns the “FU2” plates and is hoping to land $10,000 for them. In Lane’s opinion, the asking price is a bargain, compared to the price a lucky UK resident got for the potent combination.

Speaking with the Herald Sun, Mr Lane said, “The same plates sold for more than $300,000 in the UK."

"There's a real history to them over there: they were owned by a London porn baron and a former porn star."

Lane acknowledged that there will be concerns among the public for the message conveyed by the “FU2” combo, but said that it’s all just a bit of fun.

While VicRoads checks each registration request for possible offensive messages, it also has the power to recall rude plates that have already made it through – so perhaps “FU2” is not long for this world after all.
