Mitsubishi Evo X TMR SST Club-Spec Classic Adelaide Rally Debut

We’ve recently spent a bit of time behind the wheel of Mitsubishi’s latest Evo and the tightly-wound little jigger is one of the office favourites at The Motor Report. So when news reached us that a competition version was debuting this week, we had to find out more about it.

If you like your Mitsubishis a little on the tuned side, then Team Mitsubishi Ralliart (TMR) will no-doubt be a firm that you are familiar with. Run by prominent motorsport identity Alan Heaphy, TMR is a Melbourne-based operation that undertakes the development and preparation of competition cars in addition to the enhancement of Mitsubishi road vehicles.

You may recall the TMR Triton concept from this year’s Sydney International Motor Show, or perhaps the limited run TMR 380 that we featured earlier this year?

Well, Alan and his crew have wasted no time getting down and dirty with the Evo X, and one of the results of their tinkering is the car you see here, the Evolution X TMR SST Club-Spec. Due to make its public debut at this week's Classic Adelaide Rally, the Club-Spec will be the flagship of Mitsubishi’s 12th year as official vehicle supplier to the event.

Based on the standard 217kW Evolution sedan with TC-SST twin-clutch, six-speed transmission, the TMR Club-Spec adds the following;

• TMR exhaust
• Lowered, progressive-rate springs
• Competition brake pads
• 245R18 R-Spec tyres
• Bolt-in (removeable) roll cage
• Modified front seats with 6-point harnesses
• Two fire extinguishers

But that’s not all, Heaphy and his team have fanned the flames in the Evo’s engine department as well, and the result is a whopping 270kW and 500Nm in Club-Spec trim. Yes, you read that right…

The Classic Adelaide Rally begins this Thursday (following a prologue to determine the starting order) with the Club-Spec participating in the Regularity category, which will see it tackle 34 special stages and more than 1000 kms of South Australia’s most challenging roads.
