Mercedes-Benz has recalled its S-Class luxury model in Australia this week, due to a potential problem with a transmission wiring harness.

The German carmaker says that the wiring harness in question may be located without sufficient space between it and the exhaust system.

Heat from the exhaust may damage the wiring harness which, in turn, could cause a fault that prevents the driver from selecting ‘Park’ with the gear selector.

Further, the same fault may see the vehicle unintentionally shift to ‘Neutral’ while driving. Both scenarios could create a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users.

Specifically, the S 350 variant is targeted by the recall in Australia.

Mercedes-Benz will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Mercedes-Benz Australia on 03 9566 9266.
