To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the two logos which eventually became one – the three-pointed star of Mercedes and the wreath-encircled name of Benz, the German giant has announced the “100 Years of Mercedes-Benz Edition” CL500.

The special edition 284kW (382hp) CL500, which is available in either rear-wheel-drive or with 4MATIC all-wheel-drive, features the AMG Sports package with new side skirts and front and rear aprons.

High-sheen 20-inch 5-spoke AMG light alloy wheels in titanium grey sit beneath the special edition CL500’ guards, shod with 255/35 R 20 tyres.

Inside, the focus of this special edition is most obvious, in the form of the two original logos inset side-by-side in the centre console of the “100 Years of Mercedes-Benz Edition” CL500.

Partly hand-stitched Sahara Beige premium leather trim features in the cabin, while a high-quality wood/leather steering wheel caps off the image in shining black piano lacquer.

The requisite Mercedes-Benz technology is on hand as well, with an SD memory card slot in the centre console and a USB port in the glove compartment.  A universal media interface is also in place for connecting various types of portable media devices.

No official word has been given yet for an Australian release, so stay tuned for more information as it comes.
