While Mazda’s Circuit Trial concepts may steal the show at the Mazda stand at the Tokyo Auto Salon running January 9 to 11, the Hiroshima-based carmaker will introduce the all-new Mazda3 with a 111kW 1.6 litre turbo-diesel engine, along with a 2.2 litre 138kW version of the same engine.

These will be offered alongside the regular 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre petrol engines, which also make use of a nanotechnology-based exhaust catalyst to help reduce the company’s reliance on precious metals platinum and palladium by 70 to 90 percent.

Continuing its commitment to alternative power, Mazda will also display the Mazda Premacy hybrid concept.  Utilising both a rotary engine and a hydrogen-powered electric motor, the Premacy hybrid concept will make the best use of petrol and hydrogen power. According to Mazda, the range of the electric motor will add 200km to the car’s overall range.
