Good news over at Mazda with the company announcing it has set new sales records in July this year, pushing 6508 new Mazdas out the door. Praise is being heaped on the economical Mazda2, responsible for 1447 sales alone - an increase of 147% for the previous year. Not a bad month when you set two records at once.

The Mazda2 can do no wrong and continues to win the hearts and wallets of buyers in the highly competitive <$25K segment. Mazda has increased market share in this segment by 8.3% compared to July '07; impressive.

The Mazda BT-50 is the other stand-out model having sold 755 units this month for a total of 6,516 sales for the year, an increase of 7.8% year-on-year for the diesel-powered workhorse.

Mazda Managing Director Doug Dickson was understandably pleased with the figures.

"It's great news for Mazda that we're ahead of where we need to be to reach our stated goal of 80,000. It looks like the good times are set to continue. With a number of new model initiatives, the second half of the year should be just as good," Mr Dickson said.

Coming shortly, TMR's review of the Mazda2.
